Welcome. Our goal is to bring to a global audience the opportunity to obtain extremely rare and difficult-to-find publications on Japanese ceramic art. This section includes rare books, deluxe-edition compilations, rare guides to various potters and their careers, and special commemorative publications. In most cases, these books are out of print and were only published in very small quantities. Collectors of Japanese pottery will find these publications to be invaluable assets as reference materials and as guides to the wonderful world of Japanese ceramics.

  • Earthen vessels are considered by many to represent the origin of Japanese ceramics. Scientific and historical research on this issue is still insufficient, however, mainly because earthen vessels have never been a popular topic for scholars or antique art collectors. This book focuses on earthen vessels during the Kofun period (6th to 3rd centuries BC ), and features the history, techniques and development of earthenware production. Over 370 photographed examples.

  • Tokuri, a sake bottle said to have originated in ancient Korean, was introduced by potters coming from Korea to Japan in the Muromachi and Momoyama eras (14th century to late 16 century). The author of this book is a sake lover, whose first book focused on choku, or sake cups. His second book (this book) features around 350 tokuri pieces. Book includes the kiln names of the tokuri presented, with terms and explanatory material documented at the end of the volume.
